Evaluation 5: How I attracted my audience
The first thing that attracts my target audience on the front cover is having a model the same age as them which they can relate to, therefore making them feel like its more specifically made for them. The next thing that attracts them to purchasing it is the stylish, sleek and professional layout. The main image is positioned in the center with the coverlines positioned in the left and right thirds forming a rectangular shape, making it look detailed but organised. This is especially important for attracting a the higher class end of my target audience as they expect it to not be messy or cluttered for what they're paying. The burgundy used throughout the cover, contents and double page spread represents royalty and power which again attracts the higher end of class. Although the colour scheme is mainly black, white and burgundy, I have added splashes of yellow on the puff and some of the artists names to draw attention to them and catches the readers eye when on the shelves. The content includes festival and concerts news as well as information on how to get tickets which would attract my target audience as much of their time is spent at at music events.
Evaluation 4: Who would be the target audience for my product?
The target audience for my magazine is young adults from the age of 18-25 either in higher education, or full time work. I have tried not to make my magazine target a specific gender as having a mass audience will allow me to maximise sales, and the content will be enjoyed by both males and females. Ideally, they will enjoy listening to music when studying or working through apps like itunes or Spotify, or having the radio on stations similar to Capital and Radio 1. The majority of music downloaded will currently be in the charts, but may also include some less well known songs from big, established artists. Some of the artists they enjoy are; Shawn Mendes, Drake, Ed Sheeran, and Beyonce, but it really depends on who is releasing new singles or albums. The individuals free time is spent socialising with friends, often at gigs/concerts and through the Summer months at Festivals discovering upcoming artists as well as watching the headliners perform. They enjoy listening to the recommended/discovery playlists created for them on Spotify and iTunes, but also having the charts on shuffle. My target audience will be middle to high class therefore have a decent weekly income and be able to purchase tickets for concerts often and buy albums. Although albums aren't very important to them in the modern day because anything that they can get through their phones they can play through speakers or in the car, therefore there isn't so much need for CD's.

Evaluation 2: How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Moment is aimed towards the middle
class/aspires and achievers in society, typically trendy and either still in
education or a full time job, this meant I did research into the kind of
existing magazines that are most likely to cater for my target market, in which
I found magazines like Q and billboard. Moment caters to my social group with
its classy and slick look, something someone living in the middle to upper class
lifestyle would be attracted to. The content in the magazine will be based
around chart music which will include a broad range of genres, but mainly pop
as I feel many young adults enjoy this genre but have little pop magazines available
to them. I will also include content specific to young adults such as upcoming
festivals and gigs which would attract them to buy my product and create a more
niche market. I have tried to keep the magazine as unisex as possible and not
include anything that makes it too gender specific. The simple colour scheme of
black, white and a deep red helps to portray this, as well as images of both
males and females throughout the pages. The deep red/burgundy colour connotes a
very royal and powerful image, which again attracts a high class audience.
Furthermore, having a high class audience allows be to have a slightly higher
selling price than competitors Q and Billboard as they will be willing to pay
more, especially if in good jobs. The magazine is filled with exclusives, high
quality information/stories and altogether has a very personal approach to it
to allow the readers to feel special and valued.

Selected/Rejected Photos
The photo which will be used on the front cover of my magazine will be:
The photo looks professional and James Peacock is positioned in the center which allows me to add cover lines around the sides without having to overlap too much. He is wearing dark clothing which also means that any font on the front can be a light/bright colour making it easy to read and able to grab the attention of potential customers when on the shelf. James is looking directly at the camera, making eye contact with the audience which makes it come across more engaging and friendly.
The two photos I will use on the contents page of my magazine will be:
The one of James above will be the main image which I will most likely cut out using Photoshop, to allow the contents to shape around him. His facial expression is less friendly and more serious in this one but it doesn't matter so much as it is not the first image potential customers will see.

Publication Plan
Name
|
The
name of my magazine is going to be ‘MOMENT.’ I came up with the name when
thinking of synonyms for the word ‘Stage’ – originally thinking of the
platform used to perform on, but is also used to represent a form of time e.g.
a stage in someone’s life. I felt the word Moment was appropriate as much of
the stories will be about key moments in the lives of artists. The word
itself is quite short, easy to pronounce and quick to say.
|
Price
|
The
price of my magazine is going to be £3.99. On the audience questionnaire, most
individuals stated that they would be willing to pay between £3.00 and £3.99
on the magazine and therefore sales shouldn’t be negatively affected by the
price. To ensure the magazine is worth the high selling price, I should
include in depth stories and present it in a professional and orderly way. My
target audience is young adults (16-19) who should be able to afford it, but
if we weren’t selling enough then I would decrease it to make it more
affordable. There will be a deal on magazine subscriptions that will be £2.75
per issue for 6 months, or £2.25 per issue for 12 months. This will hopefully
entice readers to subscribe and bring in guaranteed revenue, and an instant
cash injection to the company.
|
Aims
|
One
of the main aims of the magazine is to give my target audience of young
females aged 16-19, all the latest news, events, album releases, interviews
and upcoming artists without the gossip style that many magazines/newspapers
give. The content will be fact and most it will come from the artists
themselves rather than unreliable sources. The other aim will be to make
profit from the magazine. The selling price is currently high enough to be
able to achieve this as I’m making a profit per unit, but hopefully sell
plenty of them too. If I don’t sell as many as planned, then I will lower the
selling price and spend some money on advertising too until the brand gets
well known.
|
Distribution
|
The two
main sources of distribution of virtual copies will be supermarkets and
newsagents. I would use supermarkets as they have a large audience and high
demand for magazines. The main issue I would have using this method would be
getting my magazine to stand out and attract customers as there will be high
competition. I think Newsagents would be suitable because they’re a typical
place to buy newspapers and magazines which are likely to be displayed next
to each other. Although the audience is likely to be much smaller, my target
audience are more likely to visit newsagents therefore balancing sales.
|
Regular
content
|
In the questionnaire
I did with my target audience, I asked them which types of content I should
use most of in my magazine. The most popular responses were upcoming
concerts/festivals, interviews with artists and new/upcoming artists. They
also said they didn’t like the gossip styled stories and would rather here
about news direct from the people. Therefore, I shall include factual information
as much as possible through the publication of my magazine.
|
Frequency
of distribution
|
The
magazine will be published monthly, as when my target audience were asked how
often they buy magazines it was once a month. This allows me to include lots
of information and gather interviews from over a larger period of time than
if it was published weekly. It also means that I won’t be tempted to publish
gossip stories to take up room.
