Selected/Rejected Photos

The photo which will be used on the front cover of my magazine will be:
The photo looks professional and James Peacock is positioned in the center which allows me to add cover lines around the sides without having to overlap too much. He is wearing dark clothing which also means that any font on the front can be a light/bright colour making it easy to read and able to grab the attention of potential customers when on the shelf. James is looking directly at the camera, making eye contact with the audience which makes it come across more engaging and friendly.

The two photos I will use on the contents page of my magazine will be:

The one of James above will be the main image which I will most likely cut out using Photoshop, to allow the contents to shape around him. His facial expression is less friendly and more serious in this one but it doesn't matter so much as it is not the first image potential customers will see.

Publication Plan

Name
The name of my magazine is going to be ‘MOMENT.’ I came up with the name when thinking of synonyms for the word ‘Stage’ – originally thinking of the platform used to perform on, but is also used to represent a form of time e.g. a stage in someone’s life. I felt the word Moment was appropriate as much of the stories will be about key moments in the lives of artists. The word itself is quite short, easy to pronounce and quick to say.
Price
The price of my magazine is going to be £3.99. On the audience questionnaire, most individuals stated that they would be willing to pay between £3.00 and £3.99 on the magazine and therefore sales shouldn’t be negatively affected by the price. To ensure the magazine is worth the high selling price, I should include in depth stories and present it in a professional and orderly way. My target audience is young adults (16-19) who should be able to afford it, but if we weren’t selling enough then I would decrease it to make it more affordable. There will be a deal on magazine subscriptions that will be £2.75 per issue for 6 months, or £2.25 per issue for 12 months. This will hopefully entice readers to subscribe and bring in guaranteed revenue, and an instant cash injection to the company.
Aims
One of the main aims of the magazine is to give my target audience of young females aged 16-19, all the latest news, events, album releases, interviews and upcoming artists without the gossip style that many magazines/newspapers give. The content will be fact and most it will come from the artists themselves rather than unreliable sources. The other aim will be to make profit from the magazine. The selling price is currently high enough to be able to achieve this as I’m making a profit per unit, but hopefully sell plenty of them too. If I don’t sell as many as planned, then I will lower the selling price and spend some money on advertising too until the brand gets well known.
Distribution
The two main sources of distribution of virtual copies will be supermarkets and newsagents. I would use supermarkets as they have a large audience and high demand for magazines. The main issue I would have using this method would be getting my magazine to stand out and attract customers as there will be high competition. I think Newsagents would be suitable because they’re a typical place to buy newspapers and magazines which are likely to be displayed next to each other. Although the audience is likely to be much smaller, my target audience are more likely to visit newsagents therefore balancing sales.
Regular content
In the questionnaire I did with my target audience, I asked them which types of content I should use most of in my magazine. The most popular responses were upcoming concerts/festivals, interviews with artists and new/upcoming artists. They also said they didn’t like the gossip styled stories and would rather here about news direct from the people. Therefore, I shall include factual information as much as possible through the publication of my magazine.
Frequency of distribution
The magazine will be published monthly, as when my target audience were asked how often they buy magazines it was once a month. This allows me to include lots of information and gather interviews from over a larger period of time than if it was published weekly. It also means that I won’t be tempted to publish gossip stories to take up room.
